The Story Behind Abundant Life Landscape
When people think about landscaping, they usually think about plants, irrigation systems, trees, and beautiful outdoor spaces. We certainly love all those things, but for us, landscaping has always been about something bigger. It’s about people. It’s about creating beauty where there wasn’t any before. It’s about solving problems, improving lives, and helping properties reach their full potential. It’s about serving our community while doing work we genuinely enjoy. In many ways, that’s been the heart of Abundant Life Landscape since the very beginning.
Where Our Story Began
Our story started when Ralph was just 17 years old. At the time, he had the opportunity to install a landscape for a home that served developmentally disabled and severely handicapped youth. With permission and supervision, the residents joined in and helped Ralph and his girlfriend, who later became his wife, complete the project. What could have been just another landscaping job turned into something much more meaningful.
Everyone worked together. Everyone had fun. Everyone took pride in creating something beautiful, and that experience left a lasting impression. It revealed how landscaping could be about more than plants and property improvements. It could also be about purpose, opportunity, and helping people discover abilities they may not have known they had. A few years later, in 1978, Abundant Life Landscape was officially launched, carrying those same values into the business we continue to operate today.
A Partnership Built on Creativity and Purpose
One of the greatest blessings in our journey has been building this company together. While Ralph brings decades of hands-on landscape expertise, Candace has contributed incredible creativity, vision, and award-winning landscape design talents. Together, we’ve had the opportunity to transform properties throughout the community while creating outdoor spaces that are both beautiful and functional.
Over the years, our work has earned recognition from industry organizations, community groups, and even state leadership. One of our proudest honors came when a California State Senator recognized our company as a top employer for training and hiring high-functioning developmentally disabled individuals. That recognition meant a great deal to us because it reflected something we’ve always believed: that everyone deserves an opportunity. Throughout the years, we’ve hired individuals from Christian group homes and worked with people who were learning a vocation for the very first time. Watching someone develop confidence, learn new skills, and build a brighter future has been every bit as rewarding as creating a beautiful landscape.

Over the years, we’ve been honored to receive recognition from organizations including the California Landscape Contractors Association, the Coronado Garden Club Association, the Mt. Helix Garden Club Society, and the Ramona High School District. Many of these recognitions stemmed from volunteer projects and sustainable garden initiatives designed to benefit local schools and community spaces. In fact, one of the greatest honors we ever received was having September 17 officially declared Ralph and Candace Morris Day. Even today, we continue to volunteer our time and talents through our church, helping bring seasonal color and beauty to the grounds and creating welcoming outdoor spaces for others to enjoy. Giving back has always been part of who we are.

In fact, there was a time when San Diego County Parks sought out Mike specifically to help solve a complicated irrigation issue that others couldn’t figure out. The consensus among those involved was that he was one of the very best irrigation specialists, if not the best, in San Diego County.
